We have come across dogs that eat really really fast. They gobble up kibble and slurp up wet food in a flash; without much chewing. You may think it is normal...but it is not. Eating too quickly can be dangerous for your doggo. It can lead to choking or bloat, both can be immediately life threatening.
We recently just experienced a choking incident with Hash, a maltese breed, who was boarding with us. He ate his meal in less than a minute. Luckily it wasn't life threatening and he did not suffer from any further discomfort like vomiting.
We introduced him to a slow feeder for his next meal and he finished his food in 13 minutes to the delight of his pawrents!
Fast eaters are naturally food motivated and as demonstrated by Hash, they will keep going till they finish their food. So, you don't have to worry about spoiling their appetite.
We have seen a number of slow feeders and some are either too challenging or not challenging enough. Here's some slow feeder and water bowls that we have used that is of good quality and design, to set the right pace for your doggo's healthy feeds.
